Tippit's last night as a family man

"Concerning Nov. 21, 1963, Mrs. Tippit (Marie) advised her husband
returned home straight from work, arriving about 4:00 pm as he and
FELLOW NEIGHBOR, Bill Anglin wanted to install a wheel bearing in
Mr. Tippit's 1953 Ford. Anglin and Tippit did install this wheel
bearing, working from about 4:00 pm, until about 6:00pm., at which
time he and the rest of the family had dinner. After dinner, Mrs.
Tippit, along with her son, Curtis Glen, went to a 'pre-school
meeting' and her husband 'baby-sat' with the two remaining children.
When Mrs. Tippit arrived home at about 9:00 pm., her husband and the
two remaining children were already in bed asleep," CE 2985, Vol. 26,
p. 486

CURTIS GLEN, who Mrs. Tippit took to the "pre school meeting", was
born Dec. 10, 1958 and was approaching his fifth birthday. CHARLES
ALLEN, 13 years of age, and BRENDA KAY, aged 10 were at home " baby-
sat" by their father, and all were in bed by 9:00 pm.

"Early to bed, early to rise, etc.."

What's in a name?

Their names were Curtis Glenn, Charles Allen and Brenda Kay. In 1963,
in the south, you had either two given names or two initials. Lee
Harvey , Billy Nolan Lovelady, Buell Wesley Frazier, etc.. Initials
only ,
like J.B. Hicks (DPD), J.W. Foster (DPD) and J.D. Tippit (DPD).
That's how locals determined that a person was from the Confederacy

If you had a name like Jack (Ruby) , that meant you "be a Yankee."

J.D. Tippit was baptised J.D. I'm told. Later he became Jefferson
Davis

The story goes like this. J.D. and Marie went to Sears to buy some
appliances and the credit manager wanted a name with more than
initials , so they agreed to Jefferson Davis, so at least to Sears he
was Jeff and to friends he was plain old J.D.

By the way , both he and Marie worked for Sears at one time.

JD should have stayed there.

See pages 483-500 of the Warren Report to see similar names.

unhappy
marriages."
---- Friedrich Nietzsche

Despite the claim of the WC that Tippit was not known to frequent
nightclubs and had no reason during his tour of police duties to
enter any of Ruby's clubs, there is testimony by Jack's sister, Eve
Grant,
to indicate that Tippit was in the Vegas nightclub not long before
the assassination.

From Eva's testimony when asked by a member of the WC staff if Jack
knew J.D. Tippit-Grant answered:

" I don't -I don't know, all I could tell you is that Jack lived in
the Oak Cliff area for a couple of years or maybe a year and a half
and Tippit, being of that area, he could have run into him and known
him slightly. HE DIDN"T KNOW HIM AS WELL AS OTHER POLICEMAN much
closer than him, but since all this happened, one of my coworkers,
Leo Torti, showed me a magazine and Tippit was in our club sometime-
a
month previous to this-previous to his killing."

MR. HERBERT:" Was it a picture of Tippit?"
GRANT: "It was a picture of Tippit, and he said, " Do you remember
he talked to you up at the front, and he was in September or October
or November sometime."
BURLESON:" Was that the Carousel or the Vegas?"
GRANT:"The Vegas, and while I looked at him I remembered that he
looked familiar..."
BURLESON:" Mr. Herbert, I think that is all I have along that
line."
Vol. 14, p 486.

At this point of inquiry, the questioners ended what might have
proven to be a fruitful revelation, but as was generally the case,
they
muted the possibility of producing testimony that would lead to a
possible
conspiracy.

When Harry Officer Harry Olsen was asked if Ruby knew Tippit:
OLSEN: "It seemed that he did know Officer Tippit."
SPECTER: "Why do you say , "It seemed that he did know Officer
Tippit."
OLSEN: I believe he said that Tippit had been to the club."
Vol.: 14, p. 632

The picture presented to the public by the DPD and the WC would
appear to be the perfect family living in harmony with the world, but
even
before the revelations of J.D's adulteous conduct by the HSC in 1977,
there was an indication that something was wrong at 238 Glencarin,
the home of the Tippits.

Heard on the police radio transcripts shortly after Tippit was
pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital- the following communication:

CALLER MESSAGE

Walt wants to know:
Wasn't Bill Anglin a FELLOW Police Officer??
Wakt says:
Anglin and Tippit did install this wheel
How does Walt know for sure that the two fixed the wheel? No one else
knows.

Raymond replies:
Yep, Anglin was a cop also. lived down the street from J.D.

No relative or associate of J.D. Tippit had been called to testify
before the Warren Commission about Tippit's associations or
activities. Despite the fact that confusion existed even at the time
of the Warren Commission about the transcriptions of the Dallas Police
Department radio despatches that contained information about Tippit's
location and activities on the afternoon of November 22, 1963, none of
the police officers with whom Tippit worked were called to testify
about the details of his assignment if Oak Cliff.) The committee
interviewed nine persons who were reported to have had close personal
and working relationships with Tippit.

MRS. JOHNNIE MAXIE WITHERSPOON

JD was fucking Johnnie for over ewo years.Committee investigators
interviewed Mrs. Johnnie Maxie Witherspoon.) Mrs. Witherspoon stated
that she became acquainted with Officer Tippit during his employment
at Austin's Barbecue.) Mrs. Witherspoon informed the committee that
she and Tippet engaged in a relationship and started dating for a
couple of years.( She said that the relationship ended in the summer
of 1963 when her husband returned home. She also indicated that Bill
Anglin was an associate of J.D. Tippit's.

WILLIAM ANGLIN
The committee contacted William Anglin. Anglin indicated that he
socialized with J.D. Tippit. He said in the interview that "he and
J.D. had coffee or tea at 'the Old Drive-In'" about 11:30-11:45 on the
morning of November 22.

MARIE TIPPIT THOMAS

Tippit's widow, Marie Tippit Thomas reported in an interview to the
FBI in May 1964 that her husband's only associates were fellow police
officers. She stated that her social life with him involved the
families and wives of many of those same officers. Mrs. Thomas was
interviewed by the committee on October 12, 1977. At that time, she
could provide no new information about Tippit's associates. She did
mention that Tippit's closest friend had been Bill Anglin, another
Dallas police officer who lived a few houses away on Glencairn Street
in Dallas. She further stated that his other close friends were
Charlie Harrison, Bud Owens, and Richard Stovall. Mrs. Thomas also
repeated her earlier information that Tippit had been employed at the
time of the assassination part-time at Austin's Barbecue in Dallas.
Tippit worked as a security guard at the restaurant on Friday and
Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. JD was also interested in a
married waitress that worked at Austins. JD was not too bright but he
was a stud.

Johnnie Maxie Witherspoon was interviewed in her home on 9-24-77 by
Jack Moriarity and two other members of the House Select Committee.
At
the time she was unemployed.

Information collected at that time:
Date of birth: 10-10-34, Height 5'1", Weight 130, Eyes: Blue, Hair
Blonde.
Wears glasses and is right handed.
Had been Tippit's girl friend 1961-1963
Husband in 1963: Stephen Thompson Jr.

Thompson "is remarried. He and wife have a nightclub and love it
now. They had been in the antique business."

"Tippit had shown an interest in another female employee at
Austin's
barbaque by the name of Clara Jo Monk, a car hop and waitress.
(Married to a truck driver)."

The investigators were especially interested in the station wagon
that J.D. had bought while the two were dating.

Moriarity: " During that time J.D. Tippit bought what may have
been
a new station wagon, may have been a Pontiac and it might have been
the color blue, is that right?"
Johnnie: "To the best that I can remember, yes."
Moriarity: "Would this have been about a 1963, if you recall, or a
62? I know it was within that three year period but was this toward
the end of your relationship or at the beginning of it?"
Johnnie: " Closer to the end of it I believe."

I think that they were interested in the station wagon because a
station wagon fitting that description was seen driving around the
TSBD before the motorcade entered Dealey Plaza. However, it was
described as an Oldsmobile.

Johnnie's mother, Verda Mae Herell, was interviewed on 3-14-78.
Verda worked at the Clifton Towers Coffee Shop located on Ballard (
one block from the Dobbs House where LHO stopped for breakfast. Lee
had also eaten at her place of employment.

Verda: "He was a regular dinner customer. He never talked to anyone
except to her when he ordered his regular hamburger platter and left
a
25 cent tip."

Her boss was Zerrell Owen. Verda said that there were few tears
when
JFK was killed because they "were all Republicans."

Also working there was a "black boy cook" Amos, about 16, whose
parents, brother and sister worked there. On 11-22-63, the police
called advising that they were holding Amos as a witness as he saw
JFK
shot.

Verda knew Tippit well. She used to sit in a booth and talk to J.D.
about raising kids. "He was interested in the subject..." She was
aware of his three jobs and said "the saddest aspect of the entie
tragedy was the development of the older son in the wrong direction.
It happened from the moment of J.D's. death."

Just a thought.
